Veterans Day – a veteran is a person who has served in the military. Under United States law, a veteran is any person who served honorably on active duty in any of the five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard).
Veterans come from all walks of life. Many brave people stepped up when the country needed them most, whether it’s during World War II or the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Others enlisted in the military as a career. Defending the country is an important citizenship responsibility. Surely a responsibility that many veterans have embraced at great sacrifice.
PTSD with Veterans
Many veterans deal with PTSD after returning from military service.
For many veterans, returning from military service means coping with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sometimes known as combat stress, occurs after you experience severe trauma or a life-threatening event.
You may not think it’s possible to feel traumatized again after serving in the military. But research shows that veterans are high risk for developing PTSD when they leave the military and be a civilian.
CBD & THC Helps Relieve PTSD

In an article in Forbes, two recent studies point to the way that cannabinoids and tetrahydrocannabinol may help treat PTSD. The first study, published in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, found that when people with PTSD were treated with cannabis extract (CBD) they had reduced activity in their amygdalas. Amygdala activity is linked to negative emotional responses and fear response to threats. By reducing amygdala activity, CBD may help patients manage their symptoms.
The second study was published in Neurotherapeutics and Clinical Neuroscience: “Cannabidiol attenuates contextual fear conditioning through 5-HT1A receptors without affecting synaptic plasticity in rat hippocampus”. The researchers found that CBD potently reduces fear conditioning without affecting synaptic plasticity – which means it doesn’t impact memory or learning ability. This suggests that CBD could be used as a treatment for PTSD by helping patients manage their emotions and memories associated with trauma.
Study says that those are exposed to THC experience less fear/anxiety in situations that triggers fear.
The researchers measured the amygdala reactivity of participants, a measure of how much your brain is reacting to a stimulus. People exposed to low doses of THC showed measurable signs of reduced fear/anxiety in situations designed to trigger fear.
